Dr Stephanie Burridge

Dr Stephanie Burridge trained at the Laban Center (UK), holds a BA in Anthropology/Arts History and a PhD in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School in association with the University of Kent (UK).

As Artistic Director of Canberra Dance Theatre (1978 to 2001), she commissioned Australia’s leading choreographers, composers, visual artists and performers and was awarded the first Choreographic Fellowship at the Australian Choreographic Centre, an ACT Lifetime Achievement award and received Australia Council funding for choreographic projects over several years.

Tasmanian born, she lives in Singapore where she lectures at LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Management University. She is the author and editor of numerous publications on dance and education and has written reviews and articles on dance for the Straits Times, Time Out Singapore, Ballettanz Germany, Ballet Dance UK and Dance Australia. She is the Series Editor for Routledge Celebrating Dance in Asia and the Pacific and to date, books on Cambodia, India, Malaysia Australia and Taiwan have been published.

She speaks at dance research conferences around the world and is a regular adjudicator for the MOE Singapore Youth Festival ASEAN Youth Festival and similar events.
