Special Performance Group
Are you interested in creating and performing your own dances? Then this class is for you. Led by Jacqui Simmonds, in term 4 we will continue exploring the elements of dance and ways of developing and structuring movement. Participants will be invited to devise their own phrases and short studies. Expect to be offered guidance and challenges – ideally so you will craft movement in ways that stretch you as a choreographer.
Experienced and less experienced dancers are all welcome. And it doesn’t matter what your preferred style of dance is. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to play with movement.
The group has been invited to perform at the launch of Dance Week, at the National Portrait Gallery on Sunday 29 April. If you would like to be part of this performance, come and join the Saturday Performance Group. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays 1.30-4.30pm on the following dates: 24 March; 31 March – tbc if there are enough dancers in town over the Easter weekend; 14 April; 21 April; 28 April.
We will be working on a new (and much shorter) version of ‘Portraits’, the work we performed at CDT’s Christmas Party. As we will have limited time, it will be important to have as consistent a group as possible for these rehearsals. The cost for these rehearsals is 2 classes on your dance card.
